Penang Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow visited North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) and ferry terminal Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim at Penang Port on 16 May 2020. He was welcomed by Penang Port Commission (PPC) Chairman, Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, PPC General Manager, Puan Monaliza Suhaimi, Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sasedharan and senior officials from PPC and Penang Port.
YAB Chief Minister were accompanied by Seberang Perai City Major, Dato’ Seri Haji Rozali Haji Mohamud and several Penang State exco members.
The purpose of the visit was to gather information and input about Penang Port and ferry operations during the implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO).
During the visit, he was briefed about how the spread of pandemic Covid 19 and the enforcement of MCO has affected the operation of Penang Port. He was also informed on measures that has been taken by Penang Port to overcome the situation which includes business diversification on marketing strategy that offer better incentives for port users.
Later, YAB Chief Minister and entourage paid a visit to Pangkalan Sultan Abdul Halim (PSAH) ferry terminal that operated by Rapid Ferry Sdn. Bhd. After a briefing about ferry operation by the representative from Rapid Ferry, he was also taken across by ferry from PSAH, Butterworth to Pangkalan Raja Tun Uda in George Town to further observe to ferry operation.
